the New Zealand Fire Service Perspective

Abstract/Biography

Arne Inghelbrecht is a graduate fire engineer with the New Zealand Fire Service (NZFS). He has a background in structural engineering and obtained the International Master in Fire Safety Engineering (IMFSE) degree last year. Since last year he is working for the NZFS in Auckland. He will be presenting on his experiences as a graduate fire engineer and also discussing some aspects of the New Zealand legal framework. As part of the engineering unit within the Fire Service Arne is mainly involved in firstly providing legal advice to Building councils, secondly general project work for the Fire Service and lastly Post Incident Analysis (PIA). An overview will be given of some of the most interesting project work and fire investigations. Finally, the presentation will conclude by discussing some experiences with the Verification Method (referred to as C/VM2) and the potential pros and cons of introducing such a framework.
